NPD: March sales up 32 percent

Earlier this week, financial analysts foresaw an average of 25 percent growth in the video game software sales for March earlier this week. Yesterday, NPD Funworld released its sales data for March 2005 after the markets closed, and the results showed that overall video game software sales grew 32 percent over March 2004, outpacing expectations.

Strong growth within the industry was attributed to the release of numerous top-shelf titles during March, including Sony Computer Entertainment America's God of War and Gran Turismo 4, and Electronic Arts' Fight Night Round 2. The release of the Sony PSP also helped raise the bar, giving overall hardware sales a boost of 56 percent over March 2004.
