Unreal creator believes G70 beats R520

"Tim Sweeny, founder of Epic Games, maker of the Unreal and Unreal Tournament games confessed that he believes that G70 Nvidia Geforce 7800 GTX is actually going to end up better than ATI's upcoming R520.

We know now it's named Gears of War and its Xbox 360 title, the game that will ironically run on ATI's R500 chip only.

In a video interview, a chap asked Tim "I have to ask you: R520 or G70?" Tim smiled and said, "Oh, G70 for sure." You can download his video confession here."

God bless the Inquirer, computer hardwares version of Ripleys believe it or not . If he'd said R520 think we'd be seeing this story? Perhaps it's worth a poll.
Im sure at some point at the E3 show someones said 'Our programme will run better on ATI' but no matter how hard you look you'll not find a story on Inquirer.
I love both manufacturers hardware but I get seriously annoyed at such blatant bias and favouritism. So ends my rant

We'll see, I've got both camps, I'll probably be staying that way for a while

I wish I can have both camps

I frown at PC games favouring hardware manufacturers.

However, besides all that. Tim's confident words have me intrigued as to what those crafty people at NVIDIA have up their sleaves

i have two computers both featureing Video cards from ATI and nvidia and both are flawless for what they do!!! my ATI computer is the one in my sig and my nvidia rig is a P3450mhz/256sdram pc133/Abit mobo/Nvidia TNT U 16mb Turbo...ect.

both brands are flawless!!! but the only reason Nvidia is coming out on top is because it has more cards!
Probable from bribeing people!!! but anyway....

I don't know about any of you, but I found the other parts of the interview more interesting than the last few lines where he is asked R520 vs. G70, and I'm not biased towards ATi or nVidia.

From what I have heard, ATI is a little worried about the Nvidia card that is up and comeing and is a factor in why the R520 is being delayed. The honest to gods truth though people, if you are useing a 9800pro now, there truely wont be a reason for you to upgrade untill the R600 but more than likely even after that. The FPS differance for the hardware cost wont be worth the money. Tim said that Unreal 3 will run on a 9800 pro, although not at the highest settings, but is it worth 500$ for 50 more FPS? I want a WGF 2.0 Card before I blow my money.

Seriously though, ATI is worried about the G70. Im a ATI fanboy, but really Nvidia might pull ahead this round. BUT!

One thing I always like to think of and point out.... Microsoft supports ATI. ATI supports Microsoft and its console Xbox 2. DIRECT X is made by MICROSOFT! .... Dont you think that if you are a Bizz partner with the company that is makeing the foundation for Direct X that you would have a advantage over one that is not?

It wouldn't suprize me since it surely will be a ment to be played game. Much the way
ATI cards were faster in doom III by distant far untill it became "nvidia's baby" then
the programing changed and nvidia card are now faster. Just means it will be another
"optuimzed" for nvidia game.

Wich in real life means/has nothing nothing to do with the hardware it self being better
or worse. But the software being made to run better on a specfic brand or card via
optuimzations in the game and drivers. sometime it back fires too UT2004 comes to
mind .

Also Nether card is out....time will tell...

Worried? delayed? where are you geting this "The Inquirer"
Since when has there been a release date???? NEVER!!!

There are other and more important things being worked on as well as R520
such as the multi card soultions that is supposed to be superior in many ways to
nvidias "SLI" soultion. New mother board chipsets etc...

It more then just 50FPS some people like to play at higher resoultions
and like to turn on AA/AF wich is a big performance killer but greatly
improves IQ. Even just turning on 2X TAA and 2X AF @ 1024x768
gives a big IQ boost in many games. many like to run at 8X AA 16AF
and hi reses like 1600x1200 and older card just can hande it at a reasonable
FPS.

If you can't break 100 FPS single player, multi player is going to be bad
besouse you FPS is always much lower in multi play due to other factors.
for example in CS:S i get 150-200 FPS in "single player" or local sever mode.
on other severs i get 90FPS but some time sas low as 60 FPS.

Both companies keep details under tight wraps, even release dates!
especally new high end cards. Who details many know but they wouldn't
dare break NDA and risk the fury of a team of mad lawyers.

I havent heard anything about the G70. What are the latest rumors?

If ATI's next chip is anything like the one in the x-box we can expect 48+ pixel shader pipelines. So I'm sure we'll see.

Can we? Just because they have the capability of having that many pipes do you think that they'll actually go through with that? That puts a large burden on them to make the next level of technology with even more; I'm not saying it won't happen, I'm just asking if it makes sense from a economics standpoint.

The ATI xbox 2 chip is owned by... XBOX 2. We wont see that awesome chip in our pcs....

ATI is not going to use that awesome new ram on PC cards.
