DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA)

After a long wait... Microsoft finally releases the patch for WMP10 to enable hardware acceloration for video cards that support it!

This update enables Microsoft DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) of Microsoft Windows Media Video (WMV) content in Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 for video cards when the drivers of those video cards are designed to take advantage of this feature.

The graphics adaptor must support this DXVA update. For more information, contact the driver vendor for the latest driver that supports DXVA. The content must be WMV-HD (Windows Media Video High Definition) clips (720p and 1080p) with a frame rate that is less than or equal to 30 frames per second.

You can try WMP's own update feature.

I wonder if media player and programs like it will be able to use this? Is it like a codec?

DirectX Video Acceleration

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1083

Interesting patch to increase performance when playing the 'hdtv' videos like the microsoft xbox360 ones. Haven't tested yet but I'm guessing the Catalyst supports this feature?

should be fine.
you may need to enable it in the registry settings for your radeon card:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\000?\Settings
DXVA_WMV (its a reg_sv, change it to 1).

edit: hey Tip i can just repost this one.

Already a thread on it HERE. Hopefully this thread will get merged. Otherwise ChoGGIs suggestion might get lost.

BUT you need a hotfix from Microsoft to actually make it work. It is a patch for Windows Media Player 10 patch actually.

Hope you understand the point.
@pepiman
you can get it from the source link in the first post

@all
you may need to enable it in the registry settings for your radeon card:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\000?\Settings

ps. i think mpc already supports it?

I merged both posts. In the future, simply alert us about merging threads using button (should be right under the username of the poster, and will differ depending on the theme you use), and provide the earlier thread so it's easy for us to merge them .
