A glimpse of PC Mini from Intel & AOpen
Intel and Aopen have tied up to make a mini PC which looks just like the Mac Mini. The machine that is based on Intel's latest Pentium M processors and mobile 915 chipset, will be highlighted by the company at Computex, a trade show in Taiwan.
Aopen will also aunch the Mac Mini look-alike based on the same Intel chips, at the show. Anthony Ma, a senior product manager at Aopen, said that the company aims to ship the Mini Mac look-alike in September to consumers. ____________________ Read More/Source: Techtree Image |

Oooo.. They changed the design. Thank God! I really hated the design of the prototype.
Even though it is a blatant rip-off of the Mac Mini, at least you won't void your warranty to swap out parts and what not if you open it. However, other than the obvious concerns of proprietary parts I'm also concerned with the price. That estimated price is a bit too much to be competitive, especially when the Mac Mini runs $630 - $750 US. I could build a micro-ATX system for 1/2 that estimated price in Canadian funds, in almost the same type of box (double the height though.. something like an Antec Aria case), yet still be able to use standard parts. If the idea is to go up against the Mac Mini then they better damn well do something about the price, otherwise the only people that are going to buy it will be corporate clients... which isn't a bad thing, but it will limit the market. -Tip |
