‘Nigerian scams’ keep evolving
The most familiar Nigerian scam is an e-mail offering lots of free money in exchange for helping someone with a name like Barrister Richard Okoya. The offer varies, but the theme is the same — help a downtrodden victim recover a large sum of money trapped in an overseas bank, and you will be rewarded handsomely.
For most, the e-mails are the butt of jokes and evoke a "Who would ever fall for that?" reaction. You'd be surprised, says Dale Miskall, supervisory special agent in charge of an FBI cybercrime squad in Birmingham, Ala. He's been working Nigerian scams for the Internet Fraud Complaint Center for years; in January, he went to Nigeria to testify against suspects after a rare arrest. There are now so many flavors of Nigerian scams, they are harder and harder to recognize, he said. Many even avoid the trademark details: the barrister, the overseas bank, or even the typical up-front wire payment. __________ Read More / Source: MSNBC |

People need to just wake up and realize that those emails are fake.
Either that or never open email from someone you don't know like you should! |

One school of thought says "you can't con an honest man" - well while that's true of any scam that invite you to participate in some wrongdoing...
The "surplus payment return" has been doing the rounds on internet auctions for ages. Anyone who wants something paid out, should be told "WHEN IT'S CLEARED", though I believe the banks can wriggle out of responsibility for clearing fraudulent cheques. |

Just recently had to kill my personal email address because of this type of crap i have been receiving for sometime.Mailwasher pro works quite well but you should see the list of blocked senders..
Its a big mistake if anybody has actually replied to them, all it does is conforms the email address is active. Money transfer scams is one of the most common scams going around followed by canadian lottery win notices. Id feel a little sorry for those who have fallen for these scams, but also can't help but feel how stupid the are at the same time. when watching news on tv about these, one man mentioned he had been scammed with a lottery win that he participated in canada, sent a cheque for £3000 to clear the tax for the transfer..... the ironic thing were he knew he has NEVER been to canada!!!!....Greed to over |
