digerati will become famous soon enough

Tamagotchi's Triumphant Return

The nearly 10-year-old virtual pet raising toy is making a comeback and will soon be hitting mobile phones this summer. Bandai's toy would seem to be a perfect match for mobile phone users who just want some quick fix entertainment on the go. Bandai Wireless explains their plans for the revival of this once extremely popular brand.

Who would have guessed it? Tamagotchis are back, in a big way. Manufacturer Bandai certainly owes some of the brand's revival to the "old is new" mentality that invariably brings back most fads, but when a BREW mobile version is released later this summer, it could help propel the quintessential virtual pet to the stratospheric heights it reached in 1996.

The original Tamagotchi toy sold over 40 million units worldwide, with 12 million sold in North America. Yet sales eventually slowed to a point that led Bandai to discontinue North American Tamagotchi at retail entirely. Older mobile enthusiasts might not have noticed, but almost any middle school student is most likely already aware of the toy's comeback

I had a cheap generic one I got from a claw-machine game at a grocery store, and then the Game Boy version of it.

I remember having loads of fun "Flushing" the Game Boy one.

I used to steal the tamagotchis from girls in seventh grade and push down the reset pinhole on the back.

Fucking tamagotchis, I'll reset you during THIS fad too.
