U.S. Supreme Court Rules Against File Sharing

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday unanimously ruled that Internet file-sharing services may be sued by movie studios, a decision that could effectively shut down services widely used to view movies without paying and to watch TV shows stripped of advertising.

The case, MGM Studios v Grokster, was among the most closely watched technology cases since 1984, when the high court established the legality of the video-cassette recorder. On Monday, the justices decided services such as Grokster may be sued if the services encourage illegal file-swapping.

dont worry, im sure poeple will come up with something else in the near future. they can try all they want to close P2P down, but imo it will just find another way to share files.

And did you expect notheing less from the same !@#$%wads who said that yer local municpality now has the right to *eminent domain for economic reforms!

Well, we all still have our last bastion of hope for p2p (peer2peer) file sharing.. DirectConnect (DC++ is open source, and as such, has MANY, MANY variations of it, some allowing you to get by the stupid sharing requirements some hubs have).
