PSP hacking frenzy defeats Sony's copy-protection safeguards

Earlier this week, one group of presumably unlicensed PSP developers released an updated tool which enables some UMD images to be copied onto a memory stick and run from that device, defeating the PSP's hardware provisions which decrypt contents from UMD. Tom's Hardware Guide reported on the existence of this tool last month. The fact that this exploit exists means that binary images of those PSP games that do run using this tool (some of which, albeit, without sound) are already being propagated over the Internet, through the Web, IRC, and Usenet.
