Some AMD products inside a Ferrari

"Ferrari chief race engineer, Luca Baldisserri revealed that the IT heart of a racing Ferrari is its ECU – Electronic Control Unit. He wouldn't say what exactly was inside the ECU in terms of components – only that it uses 'some' AMD products.

Reading between the lines, we take that to mean Flash memory, not one of its 64-bit chips. More interesting was what he revealed about the race car's telemetry.

Ferrari collates the car's data in three ways. Firstly it gets info in real-time as the car tears around the track. Secondly, it provides a burst of data as it screams past the pits. Finally, 1GB of data is downloaded via a cable, once the car has stopped."
