Comcast purchases softwaremaker MetaTV

Comcast Corp. said Wednesday that it purchased MetaTV, a Mill Valley softwaremaker that will help develop interactive viewing services for Comcast and other cable television providers.

The purchase was made through TV Works, a joint venture of Comcast and Cox Communications. Financial terms of the sale were not released.

Comcast will retain all of MetaTV's 80 employees, who will remain in Mill Valley.

Founded six years ago, MetaTV has been creating software applications for video-on-demand services and customized news and entertainment portals, which allow viewers to gather television clips and information on various subjects.
