Default Post Battlefield 2 1.03 Patch and Community News

First (1):

Hi everyone, and thanks for supporting BF2. Thanks to all of you out there, BF2 has seen great success around the world and we’d like to thank you all for that.

Since its launch, we’ve tried to give BF2 all the support it deserves by releasing patches with the fixes and improvements you’ve asked for. Unfortunately, we haven’t lived up to the standards we’ve set for ourselves and we know that. So all of us at EA and DICE are working extra hard to make sure that the BF2 experience improves dramatically in the coming weeks.

Towards the end of August, we will be releasing a new patch, 1.03. This patch is currently underway and will undergo thorough testing before it goes out to avoid the problems that have occurred in the past. There are over 140 fixes and improvements in this patch. Here are just a few of them:

Server and Client performance improvements
Improved Server Browser – added Favorites and History Lists.
Point-farming prevention - game will stop Support/Medic/Engineer point farming exploits.
Squads - locked squad leader will get a message if someone wants to join.
Many HUD improvements - see the names of others in your vehicle, zoom level changing depending on vehicle, map zoom depending on map setup (16, 32 or 64 player map) etc.
Teamkilling changes – the logic of how teamkills are tracked will be changed.
Gameplay tweaks - the way transport helicopters work will be tweaked.
Additional scoring changes - players who destroy an enemy commander's assets will be given points.

There are many, many more fixes that will be included in the patch but we’re looking forward to everyone moving to 1.03 to get the best BF2 experience out there on a level, cheat-free playing field.

We also know that there is still an issue with availability of slots on Ranked Servers. We’re all delighted that this new feature has been so popular, but we know that many of you are finding it hard to get onto a ranked server, especially at peak times. We are taking big steps and investing heavily to ensure that everyone can experience this side of BF2. New official servers have gone up in Europe and the US this week and you will see many more going up in the coming weeks. Our vision is to make sure you never have to wait to get onto a ranked server so you can enjoy the game at its best, and we will work to make that happen.

Thanks for being such fans of BF2. We’ve been listening to you and we’re determined to make BF2 the best online shooter experience out there. We hope you like the changes that are coming.

MOD Toolkit Update
As some of you have already discovered, rumors of the BF2 MOD Toolkit (editor) being released is starting to spread. Since we all know how rumors are, I thought it would be good to fill everyone in on what’s going on.

Yesterday we reached the point where we felt the editor was finally ready to be released, but in order to be sure we hadn’t missed anything, a final round of testing was in order.

We felt the best way to do this was by giving it to some of the actual mod teams so they could put it through its paces. The problem was that if we released it to all the mod teams, it would be a nightmare trying to organize all the data we would get back, so we decided on a very limited “Closed Beta” release.

This was done in order to get the editor to the public faster. If you’re on a mod team that didn’t get the beta, don't worry, you'll get it soon. The selection was intentionally kept very small so we could stay organized and focused. Barring a major issue being discovered, the editor is now mere days from being released. Not weeks, days!

I hope everyone can hang on just a little bit longer while we do our final tests. I’m looking forward to all the great work that’s going to be done and I want to get you started as soon as possible.

Although I welcome the fact that they are making a patch, a lead time of over a month is hugely disapointing, some of the things (Basic things like favourites in the server browser), should be done sooner, ah well

I still haven't seen this happen. A couple of times I thought it was happening, but that's because an enemy was behind the friendly. Anyhow, just learn the uniforms and it's not a problem.

for the most part i can spot the diffrence between friend and foe, but at long range with the sniper you cant make out a damn thing in the fog, except for a highlighted name. ive gotten about 3 FF kills because of that.

Almost all of my tks come from Antiair or helicopter. You cant see the peoples uniforms you shoot at red or when it locks on...50/50 chance that its actually an enemy.

Whenever I fly a plane my teammates constantly lock onto me and kill me because I show up red for them. Not sure if I can take another month of this before the patch comes out.

the thing i would like to see changed is the distance of friendly or enemy units. Sometimes i start shooting at an enemy tank from a distance away and it will have peeps on my team in the tank.

god i hate that. i had a friendly a couple of nights ago flying an attack chopper, who happend to have an enemy gunner. it was either i shoot him down and get a TK, or i let them go so the enemy gunner can keep picking us off.

I dont believe its possible to be a gunner on enemy aircraft, it must have been a friendly glitch.

I've played a few games when the same guy showed up as red all the time and was constantly TK'd by my entire team. He'd spawn at our base hop in a tank and BOOM! someone would C4 or Rocket him but atleast he was good about it and didn't go on a TK'in rampage of revenge

One thing that I want is vehicles able to be ridden by players. You can cart a bunch of troops on your tank/boat. As it is they just die. Iy would also be cool if I could jump on a tank prod my grenade launcher into the viewing port and let em have it.

But then again there are so many cool things they could have done with gameplay that thay didint. Namly having air units have nothing that can really combat them.

I bet you the name thing is one of many Hacks becouse it only happens to certain players

I been seeing alot of stuff (still playing the demo) like people that just "appear" on the
carrier when i'm up on the top part, no planes, no boats, no apcs, no chopters, no free
flallers/ no par chutes... Just just showed up there...

At one point it becouse thier team leader was there but i killed them all off... then killed
my reslf repawned in 5 seconds and there was 6 guys on the boat up on the top part
again...

People that complely diappar when they go prown, even in the road 100% invisable
untill they stand up you can no longer see them .. etc etc etc

people that won't die, I mean for eample as a medic with the unlocked rifle with scope I
snipe so many. A guy last night took clean 30 hits in the chest, then 3 rockets in to his APC
(that he got in he walked threw a buch of our teammates shooting at him)... then he shot
me thew the entire bunker by the flag at the senter beach point. guy had like 135 points and like 2 deaths...

People in planes flying stright but thier fire sparing all over, as if they have the
turrent from the apache... and I get shot thrugh buldings, sandbags, etc...

WAY to much support whoreing and it's almost complely impossable to down
any decent piolt.

I look forward to them doing more patches, But I want to hear about them adding
decent anti air support to actually give you a defence againt the already over powerd and over armord air support. It pretty gay when you span and are air support raped....

here ids and example of the typical air rape secenaro...

Spawn and 7 second later are killed by air support
respawn 5 seconds later killed by air suport, bombs
respawn 10 seconds later killed by air support , bombs
respawn 3-5 seconds guned down by blackhawk
respawn killed by appache
respawn killed by appache
respawn killed by appache
respawn killed by artillery support
respawn killed by appache
respawn killed by appache
respawn 5 seconds later killed by air suport, bombs

95% of the times i'm killed? useally its by air support.... or sometimes when
i'm out numberd

THat or at lest make them have to land to get reapairs and rearming...
Don't let them re arm from flying over supply drops on the ground either


Also ther are time i'm going WTF last night like when thier team rushes a point as a group
with 3 tanks and two APCs, considering there are only 2 tanks sometome 3 and we held the points with tanks and apcs..
