Advertisers pay for video games

As Sam Fisher, the stealthy hero in Ubisoft's latest Splinter Cell video game, sneaks into an empty office, he looks up and sees movie posters of "Batman Begins.''

In the next scene, he quietly enters a lunchroom where there is a Coca Cola vending machine.

With video games becoming increasingly popular, more and more ads are showing up in them.

To be sure, product placements in games have been around for several years. However, in the past, publishers weren't getting paid. At best, the deals were cross-promotion opportunities. In some instances, the gamemakers paid license fees to use likenesses of real products such as automobiles in their games. Analysts say video-game publishers are now getting cash from advertisers.
