DriverHeaven Monthly Gaming Roundup – July 2005 Edition

Not a whole lot has been happening this past month in terms of big titles hitting store shelves, but here at DriverHeaven you may have noticed an influx of gaming reviews. Here in DriverHeaven we are piloting the idea of adding more “gaming flavour” to our mix of reviews. Look forward to more reviews in the coming weeks!

PC

Demolition racers have not been the same since Burnout 3, however that did not stop developers from BugBear on creating FlatOut (also on X-Box and PS2) which we thought was great!

If you recall, Phantasy Star Online for the late Sega DreamCast was one of the pioneers in online console gaming. Well you can relive that magic with Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst which was a re-release (with a handful of worthwhile additions) of both the original PSO and its sequel.

Sony PlayStation 2

The PlayStation 2 started out well this month with the release of Capcom’s action game, Killer7 (also available on the GC). Don’t forget to check out DH’s Killer7 review as well!

It would not be a month worthwhile gaming month without your standard PS2 RPG release. This month we are blessed with Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir. Check it out, even if you are not a fan of the anime. It may just convince you to get into it. Another RPG worthy of a look is Makai Kingdom: Chronicles of the Sacred Tome. More turned-based fun.

Microsoft X-Box

Halo 2 has been out for awhile now, and if you are an advent player of the multiplayer, you would have surely appreciated the release of the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack. If you grew tired of Halo 2 and are seeking more of a life at sea, check out Sid Meier's Pirates! (also available on PC). Pirate action awaits you, matey!

Itching to toss the football around, but finding it way too hot outside? Check out EA Games’ latest football addition NCAA Football 06.

More FPS comes to the X-Box in the form of Delta Force: Black Hawk Down (available on the PS2). Is it worth your pennies? Judging from the original PC release and people’s reaction, you either like it or hate it. Judge for yourself with a rental!

Nintendo GameCube

GameCube gamers, more specifically female GameCube gamers should feel special with Marvelous’ Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life. It is very much like the original Harvest Moon for the GameCube, but it has more of a feminine touch.

Conclusion

July was definitely better than June in terms of the number of worthwhile releases. The majority of GameCube gamers continue to hold their breath for the much anticipated Zelda installment. The month of August looks to be promising with the release of Dungeon Siege 2 for the PC. At long last, the summer drought is almost over! So until next month, happy gaming everyone!
