HP announced several days ago it is delivering with Wal-Mart to holiday shoppers an HP technology package that includes a full-featured desktop PC, a high-resolution 17-inch color monitor and a sophisticated color printer -- all for the low price of $698.

Available through Dec. 25, 2002, the package offers consumers a bundle of products that provide powerful performance, connectivity and software for advanced digital entertainment experiences for everything from editing digital photos to playing PC games. The package includes an HP Pavilion 533w desktop PC, HP Pavilion v70s 17-inch color monitor and an HP Deskjet 3320v color printer.

The full-featured HP Pavilion 533w desktop PC is ideal for families looking for an affordable PC that's easy to set up and use for work or play. It also makes for a great second PC for the home.

The PC features a 2.0 GHz Intel(R) Celeron(R) processor, generous 60 GB hard drive, HP CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive and 256 MB DDR SDRAM memory. In addition, the HP Pavilion 533w offers users integrated Intel Extreme Graphics, with up to 64 MB of shared video memory,(2) Polk Audio stereo speakers, an HP Pavilion keyboard, mouse and six-foot USB cable.

The 17-inch HP Pavilion v70s color monitor features a 15.9-inch viewable screen. The monitor's multimedia display complements and enhances the HP Pavilion PC with high-resolution performance and added features.

The simple-to-use HP Deskjet 3320v color inkjet printer provides users with vibrant, photo-quality color and black text with up to 1,200 x 600 color dots per inch on photo papers. The printer is USB compatible with PC and Macintosh computers. All printing software is conveniently pre-installed on the HP Pavilion PC, allowing immediate use by consumers.

Zarathustra is on a distinguished road

I guess HP is trying to ride out the wave until Wal-Mart totally kills off OEM computers and fully markets their own.

let them eat sh*t...this is why I beta test os's for MS but run linux pretty much 98% of the time...my linux box is way less powerful than my xp, but it runs at least as quickly, and mulittasks like MS would love to (eeeek is that a dangling participle???). it's good to see mom and pop popping for a second computer with linux Red Hat or more likely lycoris or lindows...help them...be a support team...or ask me...I've run linux since before it was an accepted os and was a sort of hacker's unix...feel free to email me for help...I can show you very quickly how to set up a RedHat deskstop system that will make mom and dad very happy that is can stay up for days and doesn't need constant reboots, or the ridiculous lags that xp suffers from the display drivers...we must show them the light side and draw them away from darth bill...ok enough rant...go linux!!!
gem 17" monitor (actually using my fiance's 21" sony while I can)/antec + case/athlon 1400/450 watt ps/creative sb live/jbl speakers w/sub/leadteck winfast gforce 4ti 4200@300/600/internal 100mb zip/creative 52x reader/yamaha 16x cdrw/ms intellimouse/hp standard keyboard (hey it feels good, was free, and made in the same factory as my original ms unnatural k/b on my xp monster....really...feel free to ask me any linux questions you have...when I started out it was so unusual that you had to go to all the irc linux chat rooms and pick each other's brains...now it's so normal I'm considering a switch to FreeBSD...heh

I guess some of you people don't understand that they just use PCs to surf the internet and type up papers....and some other things. Most average familys don't need an exquiset computer.

Which means they are shooting themselves in the foot twice because Linux isn't the easiest OS to learn, and when they realize they can't just run back to Wal-Mart to buy software for it, they will get thier 2nd wake up call to why the machine was so 'cheap' in the first place.
