Genuine Windows Validation fixed

Microsoft has updated the Windows Genuine Validation tool to circumvent the hack exposed last week that allowed the system to be bypassed with a snippet of JavaScript code. The Validation is now a two-step process that first generates a code and then has you copy and paste that code to complete the process.

Dunno about 64 bit, but I like to use Autopatcher. Yeah, it takes some time to download, but if I'm installing a new system it's great as I don't have to go through the process of downloading all the updates. They TRY to update it once a month and there are a bunch of tweak settings that can be made when you use the program (which some people have gotten into trouble using, BTW). Last update was July.

Same here. I keep the one for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server (which hasn't been updated for a while), and the Unofficial Windows 98SE Service Pack from Exuberant on a CD. Use it almost daily at the store.

MindlessOath is on a distinguished road

there is a much better way of doing the trick using a dll and or a hex editor.... its more complicated but better.

Such a misleading article. This is not always the case as there were a few releases of XP initially (same for SP1, SP1a, and SP2) that have a differenct set of keys that work for it. I had one customer that lost her XP CD (plus another that lost an SP1 CD), and trying to find a CD that would accept her legit key was a pain in the a$$. So, even if you have a legit key the installation of XP you are using may not accept that key... even if it's for that XP version. Since the "series", if you will, is different it may not work.
