Sony tries to leverage its image as inventor of the walkman to promote a new digital audio-capable phone. The Sony Ericsson W800 will be branded as walkman and will hit store shelves by the end of this month.
The W800 ships with a 512 MByte Memory Stick Pro Duo, allowing it to hold approximately 125 music tracks in MP3 or AAC format. To enable an easy transfer of CDs to the phone, the W800 comes with Disk2Phone. Other features of the new phone include a two-megapixel auto-focus camera with an active lens cover and digital still camera interface. Pricing was not announced but we would expect the device to be positioned in the very high segment and retail for about $400 with a mobile carrier contract. (THG)
