Sunflower Oil cooled PC
"Air cooling, water cooling, phase-change cooling... all of them are already too familiar and even boring. So why not to think of something new to experiment with, how about a computer fully (or almost fully) immersed in a vegetable oil. Does it sound crazy to you, well it is a bit strange and you may call it even a weird idea, but it really works.
What we did was take some unused hardware, lying around, built an acrylic case put the hardware in and filled it with sunflower oil... lots of oil. Then powered the machine up and it actually didn't fry (did someone say french fries?), instead it worked perfectly fine and in some terms a lot better then when it was air cooled. Since similar immersion projects are not too common we were doing a lot of learning on the fly while building the system and experimenting with it. So in this article we are going to share out findings with you, although we don't recommend you trying this at home." _______________ Read More @ HWSpirit Thanks to Bloodys for the submit. |

Interesting idea, but I would think that since it's organic it would have to be replaced fairly often ... and it sounds like it would be a messy and long process. Might be a little harder to swap out a video card, too.
For some reason, I keep thinking about those old Fry Daddys they used to sell ... |

The big problem with all the cooling I've seen is the heat has to get dumped somewhere ... into the room, basically. For me, that means my home office gets pretty hot ...

yes i agree mig, but i think it was about a year ago, and it was in discussion in the overclocking/modding forum
EDIT: oh god, they're thinking of trying distilled water? did they not do basic chemistry? water will strip ions out of the m/b and become conductive, distilled water even more so
