Nvidia C51 to hit market on September 20

Nvidia is expected to launch its C51 integrated PCI Express (PCIe) chipset for the AMD K8 platform on September 20. The company has also developed an equivalent chipset for the Intel Pentium 4 platform, the C60, though that launch schedule has yet to be revealed, according to motherboard makers.

Nvidia posted US$74.84 million in profits for the second quarter of fiscal 2006 ended July 31, 2005, up from US$5.12 million during the same period of its fiscal 2005. The company claimed the contribution of its nForce4 product line boosted its financial performance, and Nvidia recently announced Dell will be using its nForce4 chipset in its XPS 600 PC.

The release of the C51 should help Nvidia address the loss of Microsoft Xbox 360 orders, which ended last quarter. According to Nvidia, the loss of Xbox orders should leave a US$70 million hole in its revenues this quarter.

In related news, the motherboard makers indicated Rival ATI Technologies’ R520 is still facing power-leakage and heat-dissipation issues.
