Samsung SM-348 CD-RW/DVD Combo

New Review over at I am not a geek detailing the Samsung SM-348 CD-RW/DVD Combo drive.

Today we are taking a look at one of the newest products from Samsung: The SM-348 CD-RW/DVD Combo drive. The SM-348 is a 48x24x48 CD-RW and a 16x DVD-ROM all in one unit. With small form factor PC's such as the Shuttle SB51G and the AMS gBox gaining popularity, people have some serious decision-making to do when it comes to filling their single 5.25" bay. Previously, choices were limited to either a CD-ROM, CD-RW or DVD drive. In order to have 2 drives, an external drive would have to be added, but not with the Samsung SM-348.

But enough with the introduction babble .. we start by putting the Samsung drive up against our resident CD-RW speed champion, the Lite-On 48x12x48. With both burners having 48x burn speed, the results should be fairly similar. Let's begin by taking a look at what the Samsung SM-348 brings to the table:

I hate to burst their bubble, but Ricoh and pioneer have been doing combo drives for quite a while now. When I got my 8x CDRW, Ricoh had just released the firstof their combo drives two years ago.
