Google Makes Book Service International

Google Inc. said Wednesday it has expanded its book-search service to more than a dozen English-language countries.

Google Print, which is in beta, is a separate service from the Mountain View, Calif., company's general Web search engine. The book-service index includes only books submitted to Google by publishers or scanned from libraries.

Users can search for specific titles or keywords in order to access portions of books. Google prevents access to the whole book, but provides links to buy it, in cases where a publisher submitted the title.

Google has made the service available in 14 international domains, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, Pakistan, American Samoa, Trinidad and Tobago, Kenya, Jamaica, Mauritius, and Uganda, a spokesman said.

Only English versions of the books are available.
