New Half-Life 2 mod coming to Steam shortly

Valve Software has announced that officially sponsored Half Life mod Day of Defeat will shortly be made available for download via the developer's digital distribution service, Steam.

DoD is a class-based multiplayer add-on with a World War II theme that began life as an amateur mod. It will be made available as a standalone purchase via Steam, and will be free of charge to Half-Life 2 Silver and Gold subscribers. Owners of the boxed edition of Counter-Strike Source will also be able to download the game for free.

"While we're not quite ready to pin down the exact date of when it will be available to play, we are confident that it will happen in September," Valve advised players.

"Once we do have an exact date and time for when the game will be activated, we'll let everyone know."

Valve added that players will be given a week's notice to pre-order and download all the necessary files, so that once the game is ready to play there will be no waiting time.

yes DOD really got me into online gaming and this source looks to rock, seen over in the steam forums there will b iron sites and garand rifle gernades

DOD was great. Can't wait to see how it stacks up with the new engine. I'm hoping it's better than the screenshots show though.

just a quick question to ensure I insturpreted this right... I bought boxed HL2 (just the game w/ CS:S), I will be able to get DoD for free? Or is there some kind of "Silver/Gold Boxed" edition i haven't heard of yet?

r u able to download HL1 Source version, if so i would think u would be able to grab DOD:S, could be wrong though

Boxed version is bronze

= no DoD:S, but I'm pretty sure that in a couple of months it will be available for all who bought HL:2.

Yeah I mean I held off a long time buying HL2 cuz I wanted the Discs in my hands(just the way I am)and I didnt have a DVD drive but figuring out that buying it only got me HL2 and CS:S(which I have zero interest in)I in the end did the the big steam D/L with the Silver Package.Much to my surprise with that I pretty much got Steams whole catalogue.Great value really if you are into the CS series cuz I have ALL the CS's and Im sure to some sadly I never touch them. I played a bit of DoD and tho fun was a bit dated for me.I look forward to DoD Source as Im a fan of WW2 games such as H&D 2 in the FPS realm and Pacific Fighters when it comes to Flight Sims(ah the simpler times of warfare no AA Missiles or Laser Scopes LOL)

Yes valve are based there, sorry I didnt understand what you meant, makes sense now !

Im in the Uk/ireland yes, but the site has expanded radically in the last year - I feel we need to get a stronger USA side of things and we are already one of the largest tech sites in the UK, with around 8-10 million hits each month (for the last few months anyway), so we now have a USA division headed up by Steve aka wxchaser, he is flying out to seattle to meet with the guys in valve. actually I hope some of you guys take the time to post in the gaming forum in the sticky thread there. you can all ask valve some questions.

Wow, thats cool, DH is international. I wasnt aware, This place really rocks, and is the only site i post in the forums in. Thanx for everything doods!!

...sry to stray, the HDR should add alot to the atmosphere but i hope its not to big of a performance hit.
