6.8Ghz laptop with one TeraByte of non-volatile RAM
That's the promise of Atom Chip Corporation for the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) held in Las Vegas in January 2006. The computer should demonstrate how Quantum and Quantum-optical devices could operate in consumer electronics. Without proper benchmarking, it is hard to tell if the "AtomChip" 6.8Ghz CPU is faster than current high-end competitors are. However, the solid-state drive that replaces the traditional hard disk should be orders of magnitude faster. If AtomChip can pull this off, it would be *huge*.

I have to agree, I can't beleive that just yet. The source looks pretty shifty and the photos don't look authentic.

There was an argument about this over @ FM
I brought up the point that quantum computing... whether it be ram/processor/storage is years and years off It's just not feasible that they have implemented it yet! Plus there's the fact that the pics of the ram look like Compact Flash cards and the pic of the cpu looks like the inside of a CF reader |

also y such poor quality of pictures if there ment to b screen shots y so dark n fussy at times

yep - looks phishy.
However, don't rule out the possibility of a small company coming up with innovative ideas. Intel doesn't employ all the smart people in this world.

Atom chip Corporation site says 'Welcome to the world of nanomicrons and beyond'
what's a nanomicron? presumably, nano = 10E-9, micron = 10E-6, so nanomicron must be 10E-15 or femtometer. That's the size of the nucleus of an atom. So they should call it the Nuclear chip! :-) And why is one of the tags on drive properties in Russian? |
