For example, Ubuntu Linux (Distrowatch currently says it's the hot distro) has a combined installer / Live DVD version. Suse also has a Live DVD version (not combined). |

You can even run apps from the desktop and use Linux, directly from the DVD. I'll be honest, I've only tried Knoppix to this point from a Live DVD standpoint. It works great, and even running from DVD it's pretty snappy (Knoppix was designed to be a Live DVD ONLY from the start, but it's been since modified). A lot of people take a Live distribution with them to stores to make sure that the PC they want is compatible with the distribution they want to use. |

I'd go to DistroWatch http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major to get a look at the major distributions. You can find the major distributions, their websites (and from there the d/l links), etc. Like I said, Knoppix, Ubuntu and Suse all have LiveDVD / CD distributions.

Those last posts seem like those commercials, you know the one's i'm talking about.
"The mega choppinator chops fruit and vegetables!" "So you're saying that I can have sliced fruit and vegetables all in one?" "Exactly!"

started the DVD *.ISO d/l. It's not 4.3Gb d/l like it says it is, It's saying that it's a 184Mb d/l. Dunno what's up. Hopefully after the "small" d/l, it will start the larger d/l.

Well, that's the "home site". If you only got 184 MB, I know it won't work, though. I know I had to search for a mirror that had the correct image.

Make sure you forward the ports if you're using a router. It will make a diff.

What type of router do you have? You have to access the router through the web interface and go in and indicate what ports to forward to what PC. For example, on my Linksys WRT54GS, I go to 192.168.1.1, type in the PW, and then go to the Applications and Gaming tab. I then type in the appropriate port range (for ABC ... Another BitTorrent Client I have it set to use 40000 - 40007) and the approp. IP address for the PC. I use static IP addresses for my network for that reason, BTW.
