Zyxel to partner with Russian AV software developer Kaspersky Lab

Broadband access solutions provider Zyxel Communications announced yesterday its partnership with Russian anti-virus (AV) software developer Kaspersky Lab. The Taiwan company said that Kaspersky AV technology is being integrated into its upcoming 8-in-1 ZyWall Unified Threat Management (UTM) products. In addition, ZyWall UTM users will be offered a six-month trial subscription for Kaspersky AV database updates. The global launch of the ZyWall UTM series is scheduled for today.

Incorporating a special subset of signatures for so called in-the-wild (ITW) viruses (verified as having caused an infection outside laboratory tests), ZyWall UTM devices will combine the support of the Kaspersky ITW virus list, maintained and updated by the Kaspersky Virus Lab, with Zyxel’s own “Stream-based” scanning technology, Zyxel said.

According to Zyxel, every individual packet passing through a ZyWall UTM device will be scanned by the AV engine, and this process requires no additional memory or packet reassembly process and therefore does not impact throughput, regardless of file size.
