Panel proposes Internet rules for utilities
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California utility regulators on Thursday proposed rules to provide Internet access over electric power lines.
The California Public Utilities Commission proposed regulations for the state's investor-owned electric utilities to test broadband-over-power-line, or BPL, technology in the state. Sempra Energy's San Diego Gas & Electric Co. utility unit is working on a BPL pilot, the CPUC said, and the Pacific Gas & Electric unit of PG&E Corp and Edison International's Southern California Edison subsidiary are considering test programs. "California has been AWOL on developing BPL while other states have been forging ahead with testing and commercial development of this new technology," Michael Peevey, CPUC president, said in a statement. __________ Read More / Source: Reuters |

I think the tecnology is valid, and might work to make the internet more ubiquitous, but hardly the kind of leap I anticipated, and of course, as there are rules for every other form of media to communicate there will be for this as well.
