Anarchy Online: Free Until 2007

September 13, 2005 - Funcom announced today that its sci-fi MMORPG Anarchy Online would have its free access offer extended until January 15th, 2007. ""More than 400,000 new players have signed up during the last ten months," says Trond Arne Aas, CEO, "and extremely few MMO titles can show a similar increase in registrations in the same time frame. Seeing the great feedback from the free offer we are thus going to extend it into 2007 and beyond."

There is a single caveat, in that you will not be able to access the expansion packs right off the bat. Those can be purchased and downloaded separately, or you can unlock access to all three when you sign up for $10 a month.

But are all 400,000 still playing? I didn't like this game very much.

Hehe, that is such a marketing ploy. I am one of those registrars, hey it was free why not. Anyways I played for less than 4 hours in total on my free account.

If every MMO was free registration I think al of them would see the same increase in registrations...but active players, the important fact, is far from the same.
