ATI Radeon X1800 graphics card expected to cost US$599

The upcoming ATI R-series graphics cards are expected to hit the market in October, with the R520, RV530, and RV515 expected to come out in early, mid and late October, respectively, according to unspecified graphics card makers. The R520 flagship graphics cards will be renamed as the Radeon X1800 series, with an initial price tag of US$599, said the makers.

ATI’s RV530 graphics cards, renamed as the Radeon X1600 series, will target the middle-range market, the makers indicated, noting that the RV515 for the entry-level segment will be recognized as the Radeon X1300. Prices for the two graphics card series were still unavailable.

The price is always high when released, but sure there is a long way from the 400$ 7800gtx costs in USA and up to 599, even for a 512 MB card But hopefully it's gonna kick ass!

Though the performance of pro (499), XL (449) and LE (349) is also the one i'm looking forward to see, xt is properly to expensive.

btw. here in Denmark 7800gtx costs 620$

it will have to perform a lot better than gtx to justify that price.
you can get a gt for under $400 & a gtx for under $470.
wonder what they have to compete with the gt & at what price point it will be?

deekey777 is on a distinguished road

$599 for a R520 with 32 pipelines? No, it's not expensive, because the R520 has and the R580 will have "only" 16 pipelines.

i agree as does this article - http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2532

if they are going to charge $599 for a 16 pipe card it better be one hell of a performer.

if you go by anandtechs view of what is going to happen this is what you end up with as far as price comparison goes- the 'pro' competes with the 7800 gtx & the 'le' competes with 6800 gt(maybe ultra).
which leaves the xt & xl for whatever nv comes(possible) out with.
i know ati can perform great engineering feats but i just do not see the pro matching up to the gtx on any level.
it is going ot be really interesting to see how this all really works out. ati should be doing something real soon.

I'd think $599 would be with 512MB , or the ubber top end, were as they
will have lesser cards for less. For example A X800XT and a X800XT PE
maybe whay 5%-8? difference perfomance wise but like $100 price wise.
You pay a terif to have the absoulte fastest...

prices always drop fast, Im remember waiting for the $499 9800 pro and
felt I got a great deal a few months into the game, just to sell it a few
months later and was lucky to get $200 out of it becouse they were going
for like $250 new LOL. When I bough my X800XL they rolled for $299 and
and less then a month later they were selling in some places like ebay for
as little as like $200

The most expensive a card ever is is when it's released, a couple months
means a world of difference.
