F.E.A.R. strikes gold
Paranormal first-person shooter from Monolith Productions hits store shelves October 18 worldwide.
VU Games today announced that its first-person shooter, F.E.A.R., has completed development and will hit store shelves around the world October 18. The game was developed by Monolith Productions, the team behind The Matrix Online and the upcoming Condemned: Criminal Origins. Paranormal meets paranoia in F.E.A.R., a haunting shooter that puts gamers in the combat boots of a new recruit in an elite fighting force. The F.E.A.R. team (First Encounter Assault Recon) goes into an aerospace compound that has been taken over by a deranged lunatic, only to find that he's amassed an army of his own. VU Games is slowly instilling F.E.A.R. in gamers. Last month, a demo of the game gave players their first look at the spooky action by pitting them against a few of the levels in the single-player campaign. Later this month, the publisher will let gamers fear one another by releasing the game's multiplayer demo. F.E.A.R. is rated M for Mature and will retail for $49.99. A director's edition of the game will also be available, which includes a behind-the-scenes featurette, a machinima from Rooster Teeth Productions, and more. __________ Source: GameSpot |

Thats because it rocks man, this is up to par with SOF 2 when it came out. Everything you could want in a game (especially an assault rifle with a scope).
Its not a real FPS till you have an assault rifle with a scope : ) |

Played some of demo and liked it so much, thought I would wait for the game. Suppose being cautious I will wait for the reviews.

Too bad they are not working vending machines : (
System Shock 2 was also the last game I would consider scary. VU has made a very beautiful in depth game here guys. They will also have tons of support after release. Multi will be very awsome, I wish it was more tacticle like SOF2 (by tacticle I mean everyone uses shotguns : )) instead of most deathmatch based, but they will have CTF. They may even relese more game modes in the future. Preorder it, put $5 down on it like I did (at my local ebgames) and if you decide you don't want it closer to release its only 5, ebgames let me switch that five over to another game so I say thats the best way to go. |

My main hope is the stuttering issue has been addressed since the release of the demo. |

What stuttering issue?
I hate it when games go gold and they still have a month prior to release. |

stuttering issue....
nothing major but as demos go they are not the finished product (work in progress) it's nothing major, only a very slight freeze of the frame rate on the odd occasion....hopefully the may be the odd tweak from the demo to the actuall release. If not it could be a driver fault. seeing as all games react differently on individual systems, because you don't have faults does not mean it works flawlessly for others. |

I saw a bit of what he is talking about on my system. VU and monolith have been working very closely with the people on the F.E.A.R. forums and any feedback they have recieved from the demo. I think you will get more than you think you will with the finished product : ).
I give it my next SOF 2 award (at least till SOF 3 comes out, which has been kept under rapps for a long time). |

The only reason I could see why the game went gold is to sort through the simultaneous multi-district launch of this game. I wouldn't be surprised if a patch was issued before the launch of the game though.

The game pushes your system pretty hard, but I do have to wonder why it does so for just a few steps higher than what the Doom 3 engine or even the Source Engine can do. I concur that the sound could have been better, but like I said, I saw potential and I'm hoping that the final version of the game doesn't leave disappointed.

Well No_Style, I am hoping it'll be good. I mean, seriously, the demo was nothing amazing but maybe the game will be?

I don't think the word to describe the game overall would be scary, since you are not fighting a gang bang of demons. I'm trying to think of a word that best describes this game from what I know right now. Its like an intense action followed by cinematic gameplay experiences that grab your balls and twist until leaving you back at fighting the physical enemy at hand. Is there a word to describe that?

I thought it was kind of scary... Especially when stuff happens when you least expect it... and surprises you with some weird freaky things. It wears off in Doom because that's all you see. In Fear I think they space it out pretty well (at least in the demo), so it keeps you on your toes. You get the feeling something might be behind you, or might pop out or just appear right in your face without warning.
Wen I was climbing up one of those ladders I felt like something was down there and I wanted to go up that ladder faster than I could. It all depends on how much you let yourself be "in the game"... The sound did really suck though, but it seems like a technical issue more than anything. Some of the sounds were way too quiet, etc...
