New CPU heatsink makes 80% heat breakthrough

The inquirer has a article posted about a upcoming Heatsink that gives 80% better cooling than conventional sinks.

Quote:
This design is called crimped fin and the firm expects copper to be at the base of the sink, with aluminium* used for the fins.

And the fins will be inserted into holes in the copper base with a fin pitch of 1.9 millimetres.

The sinks will be manufactured in China and reach a production capacity of two million a month by September next year.

Wait Wait... don't tell me

So how is this more than marginally different from a Alpha 8045?

All this bs about construction difficulties.

Just take the damn pins ... clamp them... and cast the copper base around them.... no problems with gaps or heat transfer. Then just mill the base down....

I really don't understand why they are going to the trouble of having to insert the pins after the fact.

Well, from the sound of things they make this particular one by casting them together, sorta like yeti said, except I think they were talking about having both of them at extreme temperatures and extreme pressures so the metal would act like a very viscous fluid and fill in it's own gaps... remember, the good HSF's nowadays may not be considered "conventional" by this companies standards...

They intend to cast the base, drill holes... insert the pins... and then crush the malleable copper base (just a little) to remove the air pockets.
