A GamePad Preview @ PC Magazine

GamePad won't launch for another few weeks, but the new gaming service is up and running on the show floor at Digital Life. GamePad is a broadband entertainment network that offers games-on-demand plus original programming via a broadband connected PC.

We played the system on the floor and the speed and performance was excellent. The interface puts you in a giant vault filled with entertainment options. The service is definitely for broadband users only. Although company reps said that data intensive games will could take a few minutes to load, the service offers smaller, quicker games to fill the time.

The company will launch with more than 300 titles, but it has licensing deals to offer more than 1000 gaming titles, from old style arcade games like Dig Dug to Syphon Filter. The service will cost $14.95/month. If you go to gametap.com/digital you can get a one-month free trial by entering the "digitallife" promo code.

GamePad is being launched by Turner Broadcasting System (TBS). In addition to video games, the service will offer exclusive mix of magazine, reality, and lifestyle shows, interviews with the who's who of gaming, celebrity features, and all-new "game trailers" for the GameTap service.

The thing we are looking forward to most? The return of Space Ghost Coast to Coast, in which our hero interviews gaming industry insiders.
