Internet helps Air Force achieve fighting weight

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Many members of the armed forces are battling the bulge, but they may find the Internet to be a valuable weapon.

A new study presented here Sunday at the annual meeting of the NAASO, the Obesity Society focuses on excess weight in U.S. Air Force personnel. But experts say all branches of the service are grappling with the same problem.

About 57% of all active-duty military personnel are overweight or obese, compared with about 65% of the U.S. population, says Maj. Christine Hunter, an Air Force psychologist. She's the lead researcher on the Internet study.
