20,000 Scots flout mobile-phone driving ban
Scottish police are to launch a crackdown on motorists flouting the mobile-phone driving ban after revealing that 20,000 drivers have been caught chatting while driving north of the border since the law came into force in December 2003.
The law bans the use of handheld mobile phones while driving, but the Association of Police Chief Officers in Scotland, or Acpos, is warning that many motorists are still ignoring the ban. The widespread flouting of the ban across the United Kingdom has led to proposals in the new Road Safety Bill that will see drivers get three points on their license, as well as a bigger fine of 60 pounds ($105.22). ___________ Read More / Source: News.com |

Similar laws were also introduced in england.....although i do agree that driving with the use of mobiles is irritating & i have seen a couple of accidents connected with mobiles..
Yet england do not have a police force to actually carry out the law introduced. But yet year after year my bill increase to cover the police force here and yet nothing changes.....but this is something the public will not win.... |

Personally, I don't see why people can't use a headset when driving. That and voice-activated dialing ... and while I agree with studies that say there is still a distraction from talking on the phone while driving, hands-free or no, it's better than nothing.

Hands free is not included in the latest uk ruling.... The law is actually mobile in hand...The car has to be stationary with the engine switched off..... for the normal use of the mobile phone to be used.
Hands free is not included in the rule as far as i know..... i think it would be more preferable towards bluetooth mobiles with the adaptors.....People seem to forget that you are suppossed to drive with 2 hands on the wheel & the left hand is to change gear when needed (uk)..... even though most experienced will drive one handed most of the time,i do and it is more comfortable... |
