HSDPA Makes Its American Debut

Cingular Wireless is starting to roll out its fastest cellular wireless network yet.

The new High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network will give users data transfer speeds between 400 and 700 kilobits per second, and as the network matures, speeds could eventually reach up to 1.8 megabits per second (Mbps).

This is comparable in speed to the EV-DO service now being offered by other wireless carriers.

HSDPA is currently only available in Dallas, Phoenix, and Seattle, but it will be coming to other markets soon.
