Maxtor ships 500 GByte harddrives

Maxtor has added 500 GByte versions to its 3.5" harddrive product portfolio. According to the company, half a terabyte space is now available in the firm's 7200 rpm MaxLine Pro series for the enterprise segment, in the QuickView family of consumer electronics drives and in the desktop-targeted DiamondMax 11 drive series.

Maxtor said that the three new harddrives "are" shipping at this time. For consumers who are interested in upgrading their PC with a 500 GByte drive, there will be an "Ultra16" retail kit that comes with the drive, an installation guide, a SATA or PATA cable and mounting screws. The kit will carry a suggested retail price of $350.
