PC Gaming Renaissance on the Horizon?

Anyone who has walked into a major gaming retail outlet in recent years can't help but have noticed the ever-shrinking shelf space devoted to PC gaming. The sales figures paint an even more dismal picture for PC gaming enthusiasts: while console gaming sales have increased every year since 1999 to $6.2 billion in 1994, PC gaming sales in the US peaked in 1999 at $2 billion and have declined every year since for a total of $1.1 billion in 2004. Into this environment, major industry players like Microsoft, Dell, and GameStop are making a concerted effort to revitalize PC gaming, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

For starters they should stop "porting" games from consoles. There is so many games that could be made better.

Then why the hell did they make a damn console!? You can't and shouldn't dominate everything.

"plug and play" features of consoles by allowing games to be played once the disk is installed rather than waiting for complete installation on the harddrive.
Sounds more like we'll be playing on a glorified console to me.

Too much effort into milking titles and genres and too little on originality. Any smaller developers with good ideas that differ much from normal games aren't able to get the funding they need, and at best, manage to make good cult classics.

Donator
Not as many people have the money to afford even a mid range gaming PC as people who can afford a console..

With games coming out that need a 3000 dollar PC to run them on medium/low settings.. what do they think is going to happen? Or maybe the problem is the extremely high cost of a good video card? - A lot more than the price of an entire console.

Quality control of PC games have been steadily falling too..
