Inter-company Rivalries Mean No Symbian Treo
Palm's CEO Ed Colligan has once again denied that his company has any plans to make a Symbian-powered smartphone.
He's done this before, but rumors continue to circulate that Palm is going to release a version of the Treo running the Symbian OS. Recently, however, Colligan gave a new reason why his company is going to stick with just the Palm OS and Windows Mobile. In an interview with Computer Business Review, he said, "Nokia owns Symbian." Nokia, of course, is the world's largest smartphone maker and a major reason why Palm Treo line hasn't had much success so far in Europe. It's not quite true that Nokia owns the Symbian OS. However, it is the largest shareholder in Symbian Limited, the company that does own it.
