Nokia premieres mobile TV, wireless home media component, mobile media player
Espoo (Finland) - In an overt effort to shrink every known communications device to a size suitable for slipping up one's shirt sleeve, Nokia made a trio of European premieres this morning at its own annual wireless trade show, including a combination DTV phone whose existence was leaked last week, that already has Europe buzzing with anticipation.
The admittedly attractive N92 is being marketed as a mobile TV. Its 2.8" color screen (larger than the new iPod!) flips open from the base, Star Trek style, but can then swivel along its right elbow joint and fold into the left side of the base, clamshell style. Apparently the 320 x 200 screen keeps track of your viewing angle, so it can display menus and phone instructions in "portrait" mode, but as a clamshell, show you streaming video with standard TV aspect ratio, in "landscape" mode. In this mode, the unit can rest comfortably on a tabletop, in which case the device can conceivably serve as a video speakerphone.
