LG develops Java based Smart phone

LG Electronics on Tuesday released what it says is the worlds first Java-based smartphone, a step on the road to convergence between PCs and mobile phones. It also signals a shift in the battle of mobile-phone software that has so far mainly pitted Microsofts Windows against the Nokia-backed Symbian.

The GSM/GPRS phone is equipped with a 1 megapixel camera and other functions. The Java application has already been used in some functions like mobile phone games, but this is the first time that all of the phones functions including the user interface are powered by Java software.
