Nikon recalls lithium-ion camera batteries
Melville (New York) - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Nikon are issuing a recall of lithium-ion batteries for Nikon's consumer SLR line which includes the D100, D70 and D50 cameras. The EN-EL3 model battery was included with the purchased cameras and was also sold separately. Only certain lot numbers, listed on Nikon's website, are affected.
Nikon says that the faulty batteries could short-circuit and overheat. While there have been four reported cases of the batteries overheating, there are no known injuries. Nikon is encouraging owners of the batteries to visit the Nikon USA Web site and request a free replacement battery. Owners will be sent a shipping box and a pre-paid shipping label.
