Some PSU models may have a problem with this, as they may have certain minimum loads on the high current supply rails, to enable the voltage regulation to work correctly.
Ideally, use a PSU tester to provide the minimum base load. |

Yeah I have an old 350 watt Qmax PSU I do this with all the time.. I also had it hooked up in a dual PSU config for powering fans and neons and had it remotely controlled from the main PSU. It's all very simple and works quite well. The minimum load thing is important, but it never gave me a problem, I just wouldn't do it on a PSU that was worth very much, or that I would care if it got destroyed.
