The thing I hate most about nocd cracks is that most of them change the executable which makes an extra headache whenever you patch. There's also downtime until a new patched nocd is available.

Ya but you don't need emulation software. Every game I can, I just backup the orgininal EXE and play them via the no CD. I love that. No game on my PC ever uses CDs anymore! Unless internet

True, but all I do is rename the original EXE to .ORG or something and keep it in the same directory. Then when a patch comes out, just rename.

As far as the downtime, nowadays, for popular games, it's pretty small (IMHO)!

Fans waited it so much because of the possible starforce-fix and most of all, because of the x64-version. I've been waiting for 10 months now already for x64 version of daemon tools so I could start using winxp64, but suprise suprise, they didn't release x64 version just yet.

Yes I read about the inclusion of adware in the first post, but I believed the part about giving the user the option to turn it off. Nice to know that's not exactly true. Seems pretty underhanded. I won't be installing, the old version works just fine for me.

well it certainly didnt give me the option on the upgrade. I also had a game issue with it already giving a weird error trying to unmount a volume, Ill try a clean OS soon to see what is going on.

I didn't get any spyware, but I uninstalled the old one, booted and then did the clean install. Perhaps the installer has bugs when upgrading or something..

Shaga, did you get a clear option to install or not install the adware? I don't like stuff getting on my system without my knowledge. Reminds of me ... Sony!

Finally got through to the Daemon-Tools forum. Based on what I saw, I probably would wait until 4.01 or at least make sure I have a backup of the registry (preferably of the whole drive) before installing. Looks too buggy or shall we say, troublesome.

Aye, in installation there was clickable option under "daemon tools core" and below "make desktop shortcut/quickstart".
