As you can see the Samsung 250GB outright dominated the WD 250GB in the HD Tach benchmark tests, moreover also achieved almost a full 2 seconds faster windows XP boot up time between the two. Transferring selected files showed a speed difference as well in the Samsung favor. While SATA hard drives are usually known to be better with total bandwidth on the benchmarks, the Samsung PATA hard drive actually did a little better. The bandwidth of the interface does not always determine the faster hard drive. Mechanical design plays a big part to improve performance in areas such as latency and seek times and they were evident in this case.
