Intel Brings Home Extreme Multicore Gaming For The Holidays
The era of multi-core PC gaming is here and at the Intel-sponsored Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) World Tour Grand Finals some of the best players, hardware and software come together.
“We have spent the last year empowering more than 10,000 software developers with thousands of multi-core development platforms,” said Bill Kirby, director of planning in Intel’s Software and Solutions Group. “We are now beginning to see the new threaded applications and multi-core platforms gamers have been waiting for.” Intel’s multi-core processors, such as the Intel® Pentium® processor Extreme Edition, let software developers add features to their games that create more realistic experiences. The ability to run different threads – or components – of the game in parallel can not only make the game run faster, but can also make it more engaging. _______________ Read More: Intel |

to bad.. imo, there dual core cpu's can't compare at all to the amds ... (and no review or benchmark anyone shows me is going to change that, Because i've experienced both, and in the end, the AMD dual core wins by a far margin, even when it's only using 50% of it's power only to be beat by intel by a small margin showing just which one is actually more powerful)

thats ok, the developers are secretly taking those free intel multi core machines and using them as test beds for code that would work as good or better on AMD's multicores =P

Well you're forgetting the reason Intel's 8xx series is slower - its 2 cores on 2 dies. AMD has 2 cores on 1 die. Better design but not an exclusive. Intel's 9xx series will be the same - and then we're back to the FSB debackle.
Hey look, I'm not trying to bash AMD nor am I hyping up Intel - both make a quality product but they're being designed for completely DIFFERENT things. If you're a gamer, there's a chip for you. If you render video, there's a chip for you. And if you just want something to say you spent an obsorbant amount of money on - yup - there's a chip even for you! What there ISN'T is a remotely conceivable way to compare them. So stop doing it. What I find halarious is the fact Intel doesn't mind the nit-picking done by AMD. Intel can afford to be #2 for a while but the bottom line is, who's got a better vision or more importantly, who has the means to impliment it? Plus there's the whole 'monopoly' thing and Intel doesn't want a part of that... ______________________ True story, I attended a development conference for my company (Costco) which is NOT a tech-savvy company like BestBuy or CircutCity - and AMD + Intel were asked to give presentations. *time to get out the fireworks* AMD was on Day 1 and thier presentation was soley based on how much better they were over Intel. Intel presented Day 2 and spent an hour showing how technology is allowing us to do more than we could before Sounds biased huh? Well its 100% true. AMD spent 15 minutes talking about thier new 64-bit platform and 45 minutes trying to prove how superior it was to Intel. (and they weren't even doing THAT right. You can't compare a 64-bit CPU to a 32-bit one unless you want to skew the results) Intel spent 45 minutes discussing how faster processors, increased capacity, and many other features are allowing us to watch HiDef on our PC, how video games look more realistic than ever before, and just why a PC will replace your HomeTheater system in the next 2 years! Oddly enough, I wasn't a bit suprised what AMD was going to do. What DID suprise me is Intel didn't mention AMD ONCE in thier entire presentation. It wasn't needed, and Lord knows they're taking the blunt of an endless stream of jokes from across the room. Just shows who has more class. As I said before, each has thier target market and targetted consumer but how they're going about it makes the fight that more enjoyable! |
