Hacker test of Diebold's voting machines has been postponed
Harri Hursti, a Finnish computer security expert, will have to wait for his chance to hack into Diebold's voting machine. Secretary of State Bruce McPherson wanted Hursti to test the machine's security by breaking into it. The test, which would have started today, has been postponed.
Hursti has successfully hacked Diebold's security before and was able to get the machines to display, "Are We Having Fun Yet?" He did this by inserting a modified smart-card into the machine. While startling, it should be noted that physical access to the card slot would not be available to regular voters. Diebold's voting machines were refused certification in the summer because of reliability programs. McPherson and his office tested 96 Diebold machines and found that the screens and printers would often freeze. Nghia Nguyen Demovic, McPherson's spokesperson, said, "We're in the process of working out the details." ____________ Source: TG Daily |
