iRiver MP3 Player Unlocks Xbox 360's DRM Block
iRiver Ltd., a digital entertainment company based in Seoul, South Korea, recently announced that its H10 portable audio player will be the first to seamlessly enable playback of protected content, including subscription content, from a portable device docked in the Xbox 360.
"One of the neat features of the Xbox 360 is that you can replace the default music with music of your choice. While the Xbox can connect with other MP3 players, they are limited to music that is in MP3 format. Music with digital rights management on it cannot be played," Patrick Markel, senior strategic partnerships manager for iRiver America, told PCMag.com. To use an MP3 player such as the H10 with the Xbox 360, users connect an MP3 player's USB cable to any controller port on the Xbox 360 console, then go to the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard to select or create a playlist. "The deep integration between Xbox 360 and the iRiver H10 provides customers with access to the entire breadth of Windows Media-enabled music offerings, including portable subscription and further advanced user options for customizing their game play experience," Enrique Rodriguez, vice president of Xbox Partnerships at Microsoft Corp, said in a statement. Because the Xbox 360's console control panel software allows music to be played off any USB 2.0-connected MP3 player, the iRiver H10 is not the first MP3 player to be compatible with the Xbox 360. However, in the case of the dominant Apple iPod, it only plays MP3 files, much to many players' chagrin. AAC files purchased from the iTunes store are not compatible with the Xbox, because of Apple Computer Inc.'s DRM encoding. ____________ Read More / Source: Yahoo! News |
