Microsoft launches lawsuits against seven Ontario resellers

Microsoft commenced lawsuits in the Federal Court of Canada against seven system builders who have allegedly been hard disk loading Microsoft software onto PCs and selling them without the CD-ROMs, Certificates of Authenticity and other components that come with genuine licensed Microsoft software. The system builders identified in the lawsuits include four located in Toronto, one in Mississauga, one in Brampton and one in St. Catharines.

“Microsoft’s objective is to help reduce piracy through educational efforts and to help protect the channel and end-users,” said Susan Harper, license compliance manager, Microsoft Canada.

“By taking legal action we are trying to help decrease software piracy in Canada and stop resellers who are hard disk loading."
