North American youth more plugged-in than ever: survey
WASHINGTON (AFP) - Some 87 percent of North American 15-year-olds use instant messaging and nearly half of 12- to 14-year-olds have a mobile phone, a survey of youth and technology showed.
The survey by Forrester Research of more than 5,000 Americans and Canadians between the ages of 12 and 21 who use the Internet showed that the youngsters are becoming increasing tech-savvy. The survey found these young consumers spend an average of almost 11 hours per week online, while nearly one in five of the youngest of this group (ages 12 to 17) spend 20 hours or more per week online. Eighty-eight percent of boys ages 12 to 17 own a game console, compared with 63 percent of girls the same age, and 55 percent of boys would rather play games than watch television. One out of four in the survey said they planned to purchase an MP3 music player in the next 12 months. In the full survey group, 83 percent said they used instant messaging services, compared with 32 percent for online adults. More than three out of four young consumers have a mobile phone. _____________ Read More / Source: Yahoo! News |
