XFX Brings GeForce 6800 GS To AGP

There’s life in the old dog yet, whoda thunkit? The GeForce 6800 GS has made it to AGP.

It has not only inched it either, XFX’s AGP edition of this powerful card is the full fat edition complete with 256MB of DDR3 RAM, HDR, SM3, etc etc. Still two weeks away, XFX is being a little cagey about giving away the exact clock rate but expects to get it equal, or at least within a whisker of the PCI Express edition.

This would mean potentially 12 whole pipelines to play with, five dedicated vertex shaders clocking in a 425MHz and lightening memory running at around the 1GHz mark producing 32Gbps of bandwidth. Naturally, goodies such as DVI Out and XFX’s ‘Coolbits‘ overclocking software will make it into the mix and the retail price will be kept down to a reasonable 249 euros including VAT.

It’s nice to see manufacturers continue to push the AGP interface, it helps out those reluctant to strip down perfectly stable systems and there’s still a buck to be made servicing such a large user base. I wonder just how much faster the old dog can go?
