HP introduces state-of-the-art video conferencing system

In an effort to ease the pains of jet-lagged executives who are burned out on business travel, Hewlett-Packard has unveiled a high-priced video conferencing system that can simulate real-time, face-to-face meetings over long distances.

The set-up, however, comes at a steep price. It costs $550,000 per room for the equipment and installation. Customers will also pay an $18,000 monthly service fee per room.

The system, dubbed Halo Collaboration Studio, includes four 50-inch flat-panel plasma screens, four video cameras and a high-fidelity speaker system. The system is tethered to the Palo Alto firm's private fiber-optic broadband network, avoiding the public Internet.
