rockdirect Enters Dual Core Notebook Arena
Alienware was first to bring a dual core processor to the notebook market back in November and US only company Widow followed closely behind them. Now the British have shown their hand with rockdirect revealing its impressive take on realm of multi-core.
A new flagship Xtreme 64 is what catches the eye, with a rocking (pun intended) Athlon 64 X2 4800+ processor leading the line. An FX57 CPU is also an option but with games these days being specifically coded to take advantage of the X2’s multitasking capabilities, why go there…? Being a desktop replacement machine, the Xtreme 64 continues to push the envelope. It features a large 17in screen with X-Glass as standard and super high 1920 x 1200 widescreen resolution. Dual hard drives hold up to 240GB of storage and are hot swappable for dual DVD writers if necessary. Curiously, the Xtreme 64 only ships with an nVidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra from launch, but a 7800 GTX will be available in mid January. Otherwise, all the bells and whistles that you would expect from such a beast line up here: 7.1 surround sound, wireless g, Bluetooth, optional TV tuner, 7-in-1 card reader, DVI and even a three year collect and return warranty. Prices are not for the faint hearted, starting at £1,899 excluding VAT, but if you got to the bottom of this article still thinking “Yeah, that’s my next laptop”, money really isn’t an option for you anyway.
